Vanity Fair s 2010 New Establishment Is A List Of Mostly Rich White Guys

Source: The Frisky Added: 7 day ago

I don't know how much stock I take in Vanity Fair's lists of the most powerful and influential people. There's no denying someone like Oprah Winfrey, Mark Zuckerberg, or Rupert Murdoch has an enormous ability to influence people. But there's always people in lists like that who I sense are just getting a blow job from the magazine. Besides, who each of us is influenced by is such a personal thing! I personally find Tina Fey and Ani DiFranco enormously "influential," but they are never listed on anything. Alas, Vanity Fair's 2010 list of the 100 people in "New Establishment" has another reason for you to scoff at its credibility: If my counting skills are to be trusted, of the 114 people on the list, there are only 13 women. That's nine percent. Nine!

Fashiongasm 2010 Emmy Red Carpet

Source: TVgasm Added: 10 day ago

This year's 2010 Emmy Awards Show was the best ever. I loved it from the beginning sketch with the Glee cast, all the way to the final award of the night. Even Kate Gosselin was funny. Did anyone watch the pre-Emmy shows where all the stars & celebrities show off how much money they spent? Some of them got their money's worth while others got ripped off. It is true that a fool & her money are soon parted. I think I'll become a stylist. Doesn't look to hard after seeing the way some of these ladies showed up. I've never seen such bad hair for one thing. Here's what caught my eye... good & bad. Yes... these are my four picks for Best Dressed at the 2010 Emmy Awards. Connie Britton may not have won an Emmy for "Best Actress/Drama" but her navy sequined gown was perfect for her body. Kim Kardashian was THE Best Dressed of the evening. She was stunningly beautiful in this flowing Eygptian-style gown. Tina Fey really surprised me. She usually gets it all wrong, but this gown & her hair & make-up are near perfect! Michael C. Hall's wife & Dexter's sister, Jennifer Carpenter wore this slinky black sequined gown like a glove. I would die for a body like that. Not a bump of flab anywhere! The GLEE Girls showed up with some style. Lea Michele is awfully skinny though. She must have starved herself for weeks. Cheerio Cheerleader Dianna Agron went with floral organza & it looks age appropriate for her. Amber Riley picked the perfect dress for her shape. She nailed it singing in the opening number! Scrawny little Jayma Mays has a beautiful dress too, but she could also use some food. What the HELL is this shit? This wasn't the MTV Awards... it was the EMMYS! You don't wear short dresses.... especially ugly short dresses. Arden Myrin, Stephanie Pratt & Terry Seymour are brainless kids BUT Heidi Klum? Was it a Project Runway challenge & this was the best they could do? Heidi's usually one of the most beautiful on the Red Carpet.... and she was so proud of her shoes. They are almost the same texture as her dress. Her bejeweled necklace is worth a small country. Maybe there wasn't enough left to finish the dress. (Mode budget is $100) Worst Dressed includes hair & make-up & these four are a mess! I'm sorry but Christina Hendricks looks like Rachel from Big Brother. Her dress looks like it was made out of my sister's bedspread, with all that fringe in the wrong places. I actually didn't recognize her when I first saw her. She has snaggle teeth too! Carrie Preston's flowing gown looks like tye-dye gone wrong.... & her hair & make-up look like she was grabbing a quicky in the limo. Mindy Kaling & her tulle fabric sticking out everywhere... ugh! It looks like a prom dress from hell. All that hair piled up in a bun & those bangs slicked down to the side... nightmare. January Jones.... superman blue for a starter & it may be Versace, but whoopie doopie... doesn't mean it's nice! The hair is the real mess. Did she actually pay someone to make her look like that? More bad choices with this next batch of four. Did Lauren Graham rip the top of her dress & someone gave her a pillowcase to cover it up? Naya Rivera looks like she's dragging around her sleeping bag. There's always one who's dress looks like an aquarium plant & Emily Deschanel is this year's winner. Anna Paquin just looks like a matador... Ole'! Lots & lots of black. The shiny metallic silver & gold from last season were mostly gone. None of these ladies looked bad at all. Most were quite elegant. Edie Falco's  gown was age appropriate (matronly). Angela Kinsey was elegant except for that crap coming out the top of her bodice. Eva Longoria Parker looked a tad pudgy in the middle. Maybe it's just the way she's standing. Hope Davis was damn near perfect except for that stupid strip right at her waist. It made her belly stick out. Julianna Margulies needs a sandwich & her hair needs a brush. Kate Gosselin got rid of those nasty extensions & was looking good. Maybe a little too much halter top tho. Kelly Osborne needs an intervention. The kid is starving to death right before our eyes. She looks like she wearing her coffin liner just in case. White gowns with holes was also big. Some pulled it off and others... looked a little slutty. You decide. Brooke Burke was the best of this group. She took time to look good. Eva La Rue has a Vegas look... street corner Vegas maybe? Julie Benz ruined her dress with a hole in the side... and her straight ponytail didn't help. Rose Byrne has an Eygption-style dress kinda like Kim's but from K-Mart. She another one who forgot to brush her hair. Pale faded colors just wash a person out. I like Amy Poehler's gown but I wish it was a bit more colorful. Elizabeth Moss dressed better than her co-star, but the pale draping & that pile on her shoulder makes her boring. Emily Blunt looks like she has packing peanuts stuck to her dress. Lauren Sanchez doesn't need that hole in the middle of her gown... it makes no sense. Her hair looks great. Modern Family was a big winner, getting the "Best Comedy" award. The ladies, on the other hand, didn't score alot of points. Sofia Vergara's dress looked like a hairy-chested guy's "trail of happiness". Sarah Hyland looked lovely, but that was alot of dress for such a petite young lady. Julie Bowen had too many ruffles in the wrong places. Ty & Holly Burrell just looked odd. I can't believe he looked at her & said: "Honey you look gorgeous." Red used to be such a popular color on the Red Carpet. Not too many wore it this year. Those who did kinda blended into the carpet itself. From top left is Jenna Fischer, who looks sweet in her flowing gown. Jenna Ushkowski's gown looks more like a nightgown. Olivia Munn is just beautiful. I didn't even recognize Maura Tierney at first. It was the short hair that threw me... then I remembered she's a breast cancer survivor... BRAVO! I'm very happy she looks so well & I kinda liked her dress too. Ok... four final gowns that I really admired. These women looked fabulous. Mariska Hargitay never disappoints. She's always one of the sexiest & best-dressed to walk the carpet & she was again this year. At first I didn't think I liked Toni Collette's gown, but then I got a closer look at it & now I love it. It's fresh & elegant. Kyra Sedgwick surprised me. She usually wears lots of ruffles & this gown was a total change. I loved the color & the texture of the fabric. I just wish she'd have brushed her hair! For some reason I loved Jewel's lace-fest of a gown. It suited her & her voluptuous shape. With her hair & make-up, she was beautiful and so was the song she sang that evening, while we saw all the dead actors. I didn't even know most of them had died! Well that's it.... what did you think? Was I wrong... did I forget someone you wanted to see? BEST PART OF THE EVENING!.... just saying..... >

Anna and Stephen Get Cozy as Tina Amy and Jon Cut a Rug at the Emmy Afterparties

Source: Popsugar Added: 11 day ago

The fun-filled Emmys ceremony was just the beginning of the evening as the stars flocked to the many afterparties around the city until the wee hours of the morning. The first stop for presenters, winners, and fellow nominees was the official Governor's Ball. Newlyweds Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer were then off to the HBO soiree, with Anna changing out of her Alexander McQueen gown and into a shorter, flirtier LBD by the same designer - Stephen joked that watching Anna change in the back of the limo was his favorite part of the night! The couple kept mum on the upcoming True Blood finale as fans watched the second to last episode and reporters grilled them for spoilers. Anna said, "You know we're not allowed to tell you anything!" Her costars were equally tight-lipped, though many of the cast members told us they hope season four is as bloody and gory as ever. Stay tuned to see our red carpet interviews on PopSugar Rush. Nearby at Jimmy Fallon's private bash at Trousdale, Claire Danes, who won a best actress Emmy for her role in the HBO miniseries Temple Grandin, cut loose on the dance floor with her husband, Hugh Dancy. Jon Hamm showed off his moves in the Glee-inspired show opening, and he kept busting a move at the party alongside Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. At the ET party across town, Peter Facinelli, who looked dapper in a Dolce & Gabbana suit, expressed how excited he was that his Nurse Jackie costar Edie Falco took home a statue. He also told us that he caught up with Twilight screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg at the show, and she has given him high hopes for Breaking Dawn. He said, "I haven’t read the scripts yet but she says they’re really solid!" Big winning networks FOX and AMC also hosted bashes last night, where Emmy favorites from Glee star Jane Lynch, and Eric Stonestreet of Modern Family showed off their shiny new statues. 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards Preview

Source: TVgasm Added: 12 day ago

Tonight's the night! The 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will air on NBC at 8pm. Jimmy Fallon is this years host. The HBO wartime mini-series, The Pacific, has garnered the most nominations at 24 overall. Fox's Glee has 19 & AMC's two-time winner, Mad Men has 17. ABC's new sitcom Modern Family has 14 & CBS's The Good Wife has 9. If it's the red carpet you want to see... well E! has Live on the Red Carpet: 2010 Emmy Awards. It starts at 6pm & is hosted by Ryan Seacrest. I will never forget the year he was totally snubbed by Brangelina! The TV Guide Network has Emmy's Red Carpet with Chris Harrison also starting at 6pm. For those of you who don't know... Chris Harrison is the host of The Bachelor. NBC doesn't start it's coverage till 7pm. The 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards Red Carpet Special will be hosted by (Ryan Seacrest wannabe) Billy Bush with Maria Menounos (Access Hollywood) & Nate Berkus (Oprah's newest prodigy) trying to snag the stars for an interview. If you're not interested in the Emmy Awards then you can watch pre-season football on FOX at 8pm. It's the Pittsburgh Steelers playing in Denver against the Broncos. Who's going to win? This is really tough for me this year, especially in the drama department. Once again, the #1 rated show, NCIS, has been ignored... not that I watch it. I just find it odd that it wins it's timeslot year after year with 22+ million viewers & no recognition at all. Here's my picks: DRAMA: Breaking Bad (AMC) is my choice for the win. The intensity & turmoil were never-ending this season & it left me wanting more after every episode. To tell the truth, any one in this category could win & I'd be happy. The others are Dexter (Showtime) which had me on the edge of my seat more often than not. LOST (ABC) which had it's series finale & it still has me wondering WTF I just saw. Mad Men (AMC) has won in this category twice now but the show keeps me wondering why I'm watching & I like that. True Blood (HBO) is soft-core porn with lots of blood & that's probably why it won't win. The Good Wife (CBS) which is the only non-cable show, is the long shot. COMEDY: Modern Family (ABC). Of all the other choices, this is the one that made me laugh out loud. I don't understand why FOX's Glee is even in this category. It's a musical soap opera. I guess it got "comedy" status because of Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch). The others are 30 Rock (NBC), The Office (NBC), Nurse Jackie (Showtime) & Curb Your Enthusiasm (HBO). Actor Drama: Dexter's Michael C. Hall is my pick. I'll forgive him for marrying his TV sister. It was a toss-up between him & Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston. Both were exhilarating to watch this year. Of course, John Lithgow won an Emmy for Best Guest Actor in a Drama (Dexter) at the Creative Arts Emmys last weekend. He was a serial killer Dexter could look up to. LOST's Matthew Fox (Jack) would be the real surprise win. I think I'd even be happy for him. I bet he cries if he does! The other nominees are Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Hugh Laurie (House) & Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights) who's another long shot. Actress Drama: What can I say.... I don't really watch any of the shows these ladies are in. My pick is Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order: SVU) for one reason. She will be the hottest one on the Red Carpet & will most likely make the "best dressed" list too. The others won't even come close. They are usually fashion nightmares. Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife) & January Jones (Mad Men) may do okay, but the only thing that will look good on Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer) is her husband, Kevin Bacon. Glenn Close (Damages) is always wrong & I'll give Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights) the benefit of a doubt because this is her first nomination & she may have gotten a good stylist. She'll definitely be showing off her ample bosom. Actor Comedy: Jim Parson has got to win for his portrayal of Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory. Just the fact that he's so different than the others is my reason. Well... maybe not so different as Monk's Tony Shalhoub, but Tony already has 3 of them. Alec Baldwin (30 Rock) has won before too. Come to think of it, Steve Carrell (The Office) & Larry David (Curb Your Enthusiasm) both have Emmys at home. Only Matthew Morrison from Glee, doesn't have one. But like I said before, Glee isn't a comedy but a musical soap opera so he doesn't count. Actress Comedy: Amy Poehler (Parks & Recreation) has grown on me this past season & so has her show. She plays parks director Leslie Knope idealistically straight & that's what makes her so funny. Of course Tina Fey (30 Rock) is nominated, as always. I just don't like her show & I don't think it's funny (wow... I know I'll get shit for that). Julia Louis-Dreyfus (New Adventures of Old Christine) is really funny & I'm sad that her show was cancelled, but a cancelled show can't win, can it? I have no idea why Toni Collette (United States of Tara) won last year. Her character is oddly creepy, but funny...no. Edie Falco's Nurse Jackie is sarcastically witty, but I just don't consider her show a comedy. And then there's Lea Michele from Glee. You know how I feel about that. Besides, if they are going to put it up as a comedy, the least they can do is put Jane Lynch in the "Lead Actress" category because she's the only one who's funny. But they put her in the "Supporting Actress" category instead. Well, at least little Miss Michele will look pretty on the Red Carpet. There you have it. My picks for tonight. I don't think I'll bet on any of them. I'm usually wrong. I do hope that Terry O'Quinn wins for "Best Supporting Actor in a Drama". He tore up the scenes this year on LOST & deserves to win. I do really like Aaron Paul from Breaking Bad & would be thrilled if he won, but this is Johmn Locke's last chance. Jesse can come back next year. >

2010 Emmy Award Picks

Source: Daily Blabber Added: 15 day ago

Last year was a terrific TV season. And what's not to love about that? The only issue:The better the shows, the harder it is to predict the Emmy Award winners! Lost versus Mad Men? It's like having to betray a dear friend for the sake of another. So I'm glad that I don't really, actually have to vote.Sure, I'll bewatching the62nd Primetime Emmy Awards(NBC, Aug. 29, 8 p.m. ET)with my microwave popcorn and my personal, printed ballot in hand. But only my husband will know which boxes I've checked. Matthew Fox will never have to find out that I overlooked him. (Oh, Matthew! I did love your Lost character! There's just something about Don Draper…) Read our predictions for who'll walk away winners on TV's top night. Best Lead Actress in a Drama Nominees:
 Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife),
Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order:Special Victims Unit),
Glenn Close (Damages),
Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer),
January Jones (Mad Men),
Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights) Our Vote: Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife) All season long, Margulies had to act with her eyes and her facial expressions, because her buttoned-up character on The Good Wife, Alicia Florrick, either couldn't or wouldn't make the obvious remark. The other women in this category are all stellar, but in my opinion, Margulies did the most with the least. Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Nominees: Tina Fey (30 Rock), Lea Michele (Glee), Julia Louis-Dreyfus (The New Adventures of Old Christine), Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation), Toni Collette (United States of Tara), Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie) Our Vote: Lea Michele The women in this category are like apples and oranges and kiwis and nectarines. All are talented and on good shows; not one is alike. How can you say that what Lea Michele does on Glee is better than what Edie Falco does on Nurse Jackie? You can't. But a box must be checked, and at this moment, I'm leaning towards Lea Michele's Broadway star wannabe Rachel Berry. Best Lead Actor in a Drama Nominees: Jon Hamm (Mad Men),
Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights),
Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad),
Hugh Laurie (House M.D.),
Michael C. Hall (Dexter)
, Matthew Fox (Lost) Our Vote: Jon Hamm (Mad Men) This is a tough category. To vote for Hamm is to vote against Kyle Chandler, whose long-suffering Coach Taylor has been passed over by the Academy several times over. And to deny Matthew Fox seems needlessly cruel, after the metaphysical journey we've all taken with him. But when Jon Hamm as Don Draper is on screen, you just can't look away. And seeing Hamm play goofy in his 30 Rock guest spots last year, I was reminded that Don's cool swagger is all in the acting. Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Larry David (Curb Your Enthusiasm),
Alec Baldwin (30 Rock),
Matthew Morrison (Glee),
Steve Carell (The Office),
Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory),
Tony Shalhoub (Monk) Our Vote: Steve Carell (The Office) Alec Baldwin always seems to win this one (well, twice anyway), and for good reason. His character, Jack Donaghy, is unlike any other on TV. As much as he grates, he also endears himself. But after all those years of Michael Scott being Michael Scott, Steve Carell has never won -- and that needs to change. The news that he's leaving The Office has me missing him already. Best Drama Series Nominees: Breaking Bad,
Dexter, The Good Wife,
Lost,
Mad Men,
True Blood Our Vote: Mad Men It received 17 nods all together -- and deservedly so. After winning this award at last year's Emmys, Mad Men continued to be in fine form. I don't agree with those who say that the story drifted too far from the office last season. Don (Jon Hamm) and Betty's (January Jones) deteriorating marriage was just as intriguing as Don's boozy business lunches. And even though it's a shame that a Mad Men win would rob Lost of its only opportunity for an Emmy triumph (especially since its last season was thrilling and thought-provoking), the series ended with too many perplexing questions. The entire Ben Linus/Charles Whitmore storyline? Can someone please explain this? Sorry, Lost. But unless I get some answers, I'm sticking with Mad Men on this one. Best Comedy Series Nominees: 30 Rock,
Curb Your Enthusiasm,
Glee,
Modern Family,
Nurse Jackie,
The Office Our Vote: Modern Family How can I throw Glee to the curb? Only by reminding myself that Modern Family is more of a traditional comedy series. It fits the category better, and so the award makes more sense. I hate that Glee's own originality would preclude its chances to win. But I also think Modern Family has managed to be fresh and funny within the confines of a straightforward comedy series. And that in itself is a great feat. What the Teen Choice Awards Tell Us About Teens

Source: iVillage Added: 31 day ago

The Teen Choice Awards have come and gone, with most of the coverage focusing on vampires (we're talking to you RobertPattinson), Justin Bieber, and... Levi Johnston (!). But a closer look at some of the night's winners and nominees reveals more about the secret life of the American teenager than you can get following Bristol Palin for a year. For example... * Gossip Girl's wins for Choice TV Show: Drama, ChoiceTVActor:Drama (Chace Crawford), and Choice TVActress:Drama (Leighton Meester) show that teens like their television dramas spicy but not too cheesy (90210), think realism is interesting but not cool (The Secret Life of the American Teenager), and prefer actors and actresses who are already established celebrities. * Teens think vampires on TV are ways cooler than superheroes (Smallville), science fiction (Fringe, Lost), and guy-heavy shows about paranormal stuff (Supernatural). The Vampire Diaries won its TV category,Vampire stars Paul Wesley and Nina Dobrev won their actor and actress categories, while Ian Somerhalder took the Choice TV:Villain award. * Speaking of vamps, teens are apparently watching True Blood (starring nominee Anna Paquin), the most explicitly sexual and gory show on cable or free TV right now. I'm a True Bloodfan myself; I just note that if it were a movie, a large majority of the Teen Choice audience and voters wouldn't be allowed to see it. * In a three-way catfight between teen TV princessesDemi Lovato (Sonny with a Chance), Selena Gomez (Wizards of Waverly Place) and Miranda Cosgrove (iCarly), the winner is the one with the hottest CDandthe biggest upcoming movie debut. Coincidence? Teens chose Selena Gomez; you choose the reason. (More reasons for rivalry: Both Demi and Selena ended relationships with aJonas brother and Barney!) * Where was Miley, you ask? Miley Cyrus' absence from the TV acting categories (she won six Montana-related Teen Choice Awards last year) means she's fully transitioned into a bona fide music star to kids, although not quite at the level of big winners Taylor Swift, Beyonce and Lady Gaga. (Cyrus did win for Choice Love Song). Meanwhile, her absence from the event itself means either she was either too busy, or the show's just not the same without a stripper pole. * Teens love Family Guy, but The Simpsons is relatively dead to them. That's our generation's animated show anyway, isn't it? * Teens prefer nice guy and American Idol winner Lee DeWyze over discretion-challenged Brody Jenner, Bret Michaels, The Situation and Pauly D. But it may be time they change the name of that category from "reality" to "scary reality". * To teens, celebrity value trumps all other quality considerations; they'll vote for a superstar whether or not they liked or even saw the movie role for which he or she was nominated. See: Winner Robert Pattinson forRemember Me, winner Ashton Kutcher for Killers, nominee Audrina Patridge in any acting category and winner Leonardo DiCaprio forShutter Island. It's a wonder Leo wasn't nominated in 2008 for his role in the equally family-friendly Revolutionary Road. * Teens don’t seem to care for 30 Rock or Saturday Night Live and think Levi Johnston is the most interesting person who's spent time in the Palin house, but they sure like Tina Fey (Choice Movie Actress:Comedy winner). * Teens apparently think tiny wheels on pavement are cooler than anything on snow. I would have consideredShaun Whitea shoe-in for Choice Action Sports Athlete:Male, but skateboarder Ryan Shecklerrolled away with it. Which Teen Choice Award wins most surprised you? See them here. Exclusive Sneak Peek Idol alum goes Country

Source: NY POST Added: 37 day ago

If the Sarah Palin Network that Tina Fey fabricated as host of "Saturday Night Live" were in fact real, I can say with certainty that "Goin' Country" would be its biggest hit. Starring "American Idol" season seven alum Kristy Lee Cook, the Versus reality show intersperses footage of her singing with footage of the Oregonian hunting, hunting and, well, hunting. There is so much to love in this 70 second clip -- particularly the opening credits which are part "Idol"/part "Hey Dude" -- but for my money the best thing about "Goin' Country" is that Kristy Lee seems to be blissfully unaware of everything that makes her show one of 2010's guiltiest pleasures. "Goin' Country" airs Sundays at 9am on Versus

Before Tina Fey was Tina Fey, she was just another badly dressed struggling comedienne in the '90s with bills to pay, as this 1995 Mutual Savings Bank commercial proves. Holy Liz Lemon flashback, how was that look (tapestry vest, over-sized blouse with shoulder pads, thick tights and chunky shoes, and don't even get me started on the hair) ever trendy?!
