A Kids Version of Dancing with the Stars

Source: Daily Blabber Added: 15 day ago

While anxiously awaiting the lineup for the 11th season of ABC's Dancing with the Stars, I couldn't resist asking my 9-year-old daughter who she'd like to see competing on the show. To no one's surprise, she answered Justin Bieber. Her answer had me thinking... what if, like Fantasy Football, there was a kids' choice version of DWTS. Just imagine what we'd see! The Hosts: Vanessa Hudgens & Zac Efron. The dynamic duo would be great at explaining the dances, introducing the competitors and interacting with the judges. They also know their way around a dance floor, having trained for the complicated choreography in all three High School Musical movies. The Judges: Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber & Justin Timberlake. Cyrus is no stranger to difficult dance routines, which qualifies her to make fair decisions. Bieber is accomplished at performing detailed choreography live, and what girl wouldn't want to see him share his critiques underneath those bangs? Timberlake's moves have been compared to Michael Jackson's, and, let's face it, even the moms will enjoy watching him! The House Band: The Jonas Brothers, plus special guests.- The Brothers Jonas are a logical choice because they both sing and play instruments, but to liven things up week-to-week, a bevy of pop singers (including the judges) like Katy Perry and Taylor Swift would perform guest vocals. The Contestants: Disney Channel andNickelodeon Stars. Guys and gals from each network's shows will team up and compete against each other. The Suite Life on Deck's Dylan and Cole Sprouse could pair up with Sonny With a Chance's Demi Lovato and Wizards of Waverly Place's Selena Gomez. True Jackson's Keke Palmer and iCarly's Miranda Cosgrove could be paired up with the any of the guys from Big Time Rush. By keeping the Jonas Brothers on the bandstand we'd avoid drama with the ladies, as all the brothers have dated a majority of these dancing ladies at one time or another. The Dances: Cha Cha Slide, Soulja Boy and Cotton-Eyed Joe. Instead of boring waltzes, the youngsters could put their spin on party dance. They could even throw in the Macarena and Electric Slide. Kids will root for their favorite teen stars and parents, well parents will have to sit back and hope that Justin Timberlake provides enough eye candy to get them through the season. Who would be your dream cast for Dancing with the Stars? Chime in below! Like This?Read These: - Who Should Join The Situation on Dancing with the Stars? - Dancing with the Stars Plus... Eat Pray Love Movie Preview

Source: iVillage Added: 29 day ago

Which movies are fun for the whole family and which ones are treats just for you? Find out! In theaters now... Eat, Pray, Love Short Story: Based on the lovable memoir by Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love stars Julia Roberts as the successful and happily married Liz. When a sudden and painful divorce causes her to question her "perfect" life, she decides to embark on a journey, halfway across the world, to rediscover herself and life's hidden treasures. During her travels, Liz uncovers the pleasure of food in Italy, the importance of spiritual development in India, and, ultimately, the power of true love in Bali. What They're Saying: "A well-meant, if not exactly transcendent, adaptation of Elizabeth Gilbert's beloved, Oprah-endorsed memoir." - New York Daily News "The film is a fairly faithful transcription of events, even though Liz, as played by Roberts, carries a faint air of entitlement. I'm not sure this could be avoided on screen." - Chicago Tribune Good For Kids? With a run-time at a little over two hours, Eat, Pray, Love will leave the kids quite restless. Watch the Preview! The Expendables Short Story: Written and directed by Sylvester Stallone, The Expendables is an explosive action flick about a group of mercenaries commissioned to overthrow a ruthless dictator in a small country in South America. While executing their plan, the men get entangled in a deadly plot that could shake their mission to the core. What They're Saying: "Is it fun? Sort of. But it shoulda coulda been a ton of fun." - Chicago Tribune "Expendables is the closest thing to movie Viagra yet invented. It’s reprehensible. It’s stoopid violent. It’s a lot of unholy fun." - Boston Globe Good For Kids? The Expendables may be explosive loads of fun, but this R-rated film is too over-the-top for the kiddies. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World Short Story: Scott Pilgrim(Michael Cera) is living the dream -- he's 23, in a rock band, and dating a cute high school girl -- that is until Ramona Flowers enters the picture. She's a super-cool, rollerblading delivery girl, and she's no easy catch. In order to win her heart, Pilgrim must knock down her seven evil exes before they ruin his precious little life. What They're Saying: "Scott Pilgrim is a breathless rush of a movie that jumps off the screen, spins your head around and then stealthily works its way into your heart." - Rolling Stone "Far and away the funniest movie of the summer." - Orlando Sentinel Good For Kids? Give them action, give them adventure and throw in a little bit of Romance; this comedy is sure to have the youngsters rolling. Watch the Trailer! In case you missed... The Other Guys Short Story: Allen Gamble (Will Ferrell) and Terry Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg) are the opposite of law-enforcement heroes: two mismatched cops stuck on the bottom of the detective totem pole. When they take on a case that no one else wants, they stumble upon one of New York City's biggest crimes. If the two can manage stay out of trouble long enough, they just might land their career-making bust. What They're Saying: "It's Ferrell's richest riff yet on the comedy of conflicted aggression." - Entertainment Weekly "You should really meet and get to know these guys for yourself." - Associated Press Good For Kids? Buzz is good on this comedy -- but with high-octane chase scenes and explosions, children won't get the joke. Watch the Preview! Step Up 3-D Short Story: The third installment in the Step Up franchise delivers more eye-popping choreography, but this time, the dancers take their moves global (and 3-D!). New York City street dancers Luke and Nancy team up with Moose, a college student longing to prove that he has what it takes. Their skill is put to the test when they go up against some of the world's best hip-hop dancers in a high-stakes showdown. What They're Saying: "It boasts a generous exuberance and, as entertainment products go, it's surprisingly sweet." - Chicago Tribune "A reliable guilty pleasure takes a dramatic step backward but a technological step forward." - Variety Good For Kids? Cool dance sequences, sprinkled with some romance, will keep tweens glued. Middle Men Short Story: During an era when the Internet was in its infancy, and news still came from your morning paper, three men (Jack Harris, Wayne Beering, and Buck Dolby) embarked on a business that would forever change the world wide web. Harris (Luke Wilson), an ambitious family man, strikes gold when he meets two troubled entrepreneurs who have discovered a way to sell adult entertainment over the internet. When their sexy business begins to boom, Harris suddenly finds his normal existence invaded by FBIagents, terrorists, and the Russian mob. What They're Saying: "Even without much character development, the compelling story holds, mostly due to Wilson." - Village Voice "This one's coming in under the radar. Keep an eye out...Best of all is Wilson, digging into his juiciest role in years." - Rolling Stone Good For Kids? Angelina Jolie Takes Jennifer Aniston s Side in O Reilly Battle

Source: iVillage Added: 29 day ago

Team Aniston or Team O'Reilly? Yesterday, a heated debate began in the blogosphere after Bill O'Reilly called Jennifer Aniston "destructive to our society," in response to her remarks endorsing single motherhood while publicizing her new comedy, The Switch. Today, a friend of Angelina Jolie has reportedly told Popeater's Rob Shuter that the Salt star -- who infamously fell for Brad Pitt as he was splitting from Aniston -- would side with Aniston over O'Reilly on the controversial issue, in a heartbeat. "Angie would totally defend Jennifer on this," the source says. "She agrees with Jennifer that a woman doesn't need a man to start a family to be a good mother. For Bill to take issue with this statement is him taking issue with every single parent in the world."The source went on to point out that Jolie was raised by a single mom and began her own journey to parenthood by adopting her son Maddox as a single mom. Meanwhile, Beth Feldman, founder of RoleMommy.com told Popeater, "I don't think 12 or 13 year-olds are paying attention to what Jennifer Aniston says or even know who she is, for that matter,"adding, "If Demi Lovato or Miranda Cosgrove started tossing around comments about single motherhood, we would all have something to worry about. Jen's message is meant for thirty- and forty-something women who haven't yet met the love of their life -- and she's right on target." Though Aniston was invited by O'Reilly to defend herself on his show, we doubt she'll take him up on it. And while O'Reilly would love fans to see him as a culture "warrior," it sure sounds like he's bridging differences between two movie stars frequently seen as rivals! What the Teen Choice Awards Tell Us About Teens

Source: iVillage Added: 31 day ago

The Teen Choice Awards have come and gone, with most of the coverage focusing on vampires (we're talking to you RobertPattinson), Justin Bieber, and... Levi Johnston (!). But a closer look at some of the night's winners and nominees reveals more about the secret life of the American teenager than you can get following Bristol Palin for a year. For example... * Gossip Girl's wins for Choice TV Show: Drama, ChoiceTVActor:Drama (Chace Crawford), and Choice TVActress:Drama (Leighton Meester) show that teens like their television dramas spicy but not too cheesy (90210), think realism is interesting but not cool (The Secret Life of the American Teenager), and prefer actors and actresses who are already established celebrities. * Teens think vampires on TV are ways cooler than superheroes (Smallville), science fiction (Fringe, Lost), and guy-heavy shows about paranormal stuff (Supernatural). The Vampire Diaries won its TV category,Vampire stars Paul Wesley and Nina Dobrev won their actor and actress categories, while Ian Somerhalder took the Choice TV:Villain award. * Speaking of vamps, teens are apparently watching True Blood (starring nominee Anna Paquin), the most explicitly sexual and gory show on cable or free TV right now. I'm a True Bloodfan myself; I just note that if it were a movie, a large majority of the Teen Choice audience and voters wouldn't be allowed to see it. * In a three-way catfight between teen TV princessesDemi Lovato (Sonny with a Chance), Selena Gomez (Wizards of Waverly Place) and Miranda Cosgrove (iCarly), the winner is the one with the hottest CDandthe biggest upcoming movie debut. Coincidence? Teens chose Selena Gomez; you choose the reason. (More reasons for rivalry: Both Demi and Selena ended relationships with aJonas brother and Barney!) * Where was Miley, you ask? Miley Cyrus' absence from the TV acting categories (she won six Montana-related Teen Choice Awards last year) means she's fully transitioned into a bona fide music star to kids, although not quite at the level of big winners Taylor Swift, Beyonce and Lady Gaga. (Cyrus did win for Choice Love Song). Meanwhile, her absence from the event itself means either she was either too busy, or the show's just not the same without a stripper pole. * Teens love Family Guy, but The Simpsons is relatively dead to them. That's our generation's animated show anyway, isn't it? * Teens prefer nice guy and American Idol winner Lee DeWyze over discretion-challenged Brody Jenner, Bret Michaels, The Situation and Pauly D. But it may be time they change the name of that category from "reality" to "scary reality". * To teens, celebrity value trumps all other quality considerations; they'll vote for a superstar whether or not they liked or even saw the movie role for which he or she was nominated. See: Winner Robert Pattinson forRemember Me, winner Ashton Kutcher for Killers, nominee Audrina Patridge in any acting category and winner Leonardo DiCaprio forShutter Island. It's a wonder Leo wasn't nominated in 2008 for his role in the equally family-friendly Revolutionary Road. * Teens don’t seem to care for 30 Rock or Saturday Night Live and think Levi Johnston is the most interesting person who's spent time in the Palin house, but they sure like Tina Fey (Choice Movie Actress:Comedy winner). * Teens apparently think tiny wheels on pavement are cooler than anything on snow. Jennifer Garner Teaching Her Daughters

Source: iVillage Added: 43 day ago

Jennifer Garner’s children may grow up privileged, but she doesn’t want them to feel guilty about it. Instead, she hopes they’ll "feel the world is so full that they always, always, always have plenty to give someone else," the 38-year-old actress tells iVillage about her daughters Violet, 4, and 18-month-old Seraphina with husband Ben Affleck. "Not just money or the idea of a toy but if they’re playing with Play-Doh and the person’s next to them, that they do have enough to pass some of it over." As the artistic ambassador for Save the Children, a nonprofit organization that works to create change in the lives of children in poverty in the U.S. and across the world, Garner is involved with "Make Time for Snack Time," an initiative with Frigidaire to provide healthy snacks for kids. "You can’t learn, you can’t pay attention in school, you can’t be excited about reading if your brain is hungry," she says. "And snacks are a big part of that. They’re the fourth meal of the day. They’re what keeps your blood sugar level enough that you can take everything in and learn and be excited in school." And when it comes to getting her daughters to eat vegetables, Garner will use whatever means necessary. "I try to put several out and I don’t care what it takes to get them down -- ranch dressing," she explains. Watch our exclusive video above to find out how cooking is a state of chaos for Jennifer Garner -- and her guilty pleasure that starts and ends every day. Since graduating from the Disney franchise, he's been eager prove his talent as more than just a teen star -- but the actor promises to take his devoted fans along for the ride. "I would never want to do anything to alienate or betray these fans that have been so great," Efron tells iVillage exclusively. "I want to stay a little bit ahead of the audience, experience life and make movies about those experiences. When they catch up to that age and gain perspective on life and realize that not everything is like High School Musical, there'll be a movie there to help them through that next stage of their lives." In his new drama Charlie St. Cloud (which hits theatres July 30), Efron, 22, plays a young man dealing with the death of his younger brother -- a serious departure from the happy-go-lucky HSM films. To get into character, the actor says he thought about his own little brother, Dylan. "I pictured what life would be like without him, and that was more than enough to get to that place," he says. "You just have to have something real to think about, that you can relate to." Which movies are fun for the whole family and which ones are treats just for you? Find out! In theaters now... Salt Short Story: After CIA agent, Evelyn Salt(Angelina Jolie) is accused of being a Russian spy, she goes on the run, using her years of tactical training to elude capture. Not only will she have to prove her innocence, but her identity as well. What They're Saying: "The Fugitive meets Mission: Impossible in a post-Bourne era, with one thing all those movies lacked: (Angelina) Jolie." - Metromix.com "It's like a John le Carr double-agent yarn compacted into comic-book pulp as if by the makers of Con Air." - Entertainment Weekly Good For Kids? Rated PG-13, Salt is action packed and perfect for a night out with the tweens. Watch the Trailer! Ramona and Beezus Short Story: The adventures of Ramona Quimby and her big sister Beezus(Selena Gomez) jump from the small pages to the big screen in this film based on the classic books by Beverly Cleary. A ball of energy and catastrophe, it's no surprise when Ramona's wild imagination brings on more than the she bargained. What They're Saying: "We no longer all watch the same TV shows, we are no longer as innocent, and the world of Klickitat is fading into timeless nostalgia. Ramona and Beezus is a sweet salute." - Chicago Sun-Times "It won't change anyone's world, but it'll keep kids happy -- and cool -- for a couple of hours." - New York Daily News Good For Kids? A family favorite; you will feel nostalgic and the kids will fall in love for the first time. Watch the Preview! In case you missed... Inception Short Story: Leonardo DiCaprio stars as Dom Cobb, a thief skilled in the art of extraction -- that is, stealing secrets hidden deep in the subconscious during the dream state. Cobb's talent has made him a commodity in the treacherous world of espionage, but he's now a fugitive, and after losing everything he loves, he's given a second chance at a normal life. But first, he must complete one last crime: inception. Instead of extracting a secret, he has to implant one. With his team of specialists, Cobb attempts the unthinkable, but no amount of training can prepare them for what awaits. What They're Saying: "In this smart sci-fi puzzle box, director Christopher Nolan transports the audience to a dreamscape that begins with the familiar and then takes a radical, imaginative leap." - Us Weekly "Like a dream, Nolan’s film fades swiftly in the light -- but while it lasts, it feels like there’s nothing more important to decipher." - Time Out Good For Kids? This sci-fi tale may fly over the heads of young viewers, but it's perfect for fans of suspenseful thrillers. Watch the Trailer! The Sorcerer's Apprentice Short Story: An epic comedy adventure about Balthazar Blake (Nicolas Cage), a sorcerer living in modern-day Manhattan. When Blake discovers that the city's under siege from hisarch-nemesis, he recruits a hapless apprentice (Jay Baruchel) to help him take down the malevolent scoundrel. It will takeall the powers they can muster to save the city in an ancient battle between good and evil. What They're Saying: "I get a charge out of Cage's serious self-mockery, here as a wizard who'd never make the grade at Hogwarts in a fantasy that doesn't aim high, but hits the mark for summer entertainment." - Us Weekly "The story, not to mention Cage's hair, is a little murky (can't a sorcerer conjure up a little shampoo?), but it doesn't matter: The fun here is in the action." - Seattle Times Good For Kids? The magic, the comedy, the sinister plot -- an enchanting adventure for the family. Watch the Preview! The Kids Are All Right Short Story: Nic and Jules (Annette Bening and Julianne Moore) live in sunny Southern California, along with their two children, Joni and Laser -- who were conceived by artificial insemination. When they do find him (Mark Ruffalo), the guy turns out to be more than the moms bargain for. A new man in their lives brings about unexpected changes, as the foursome must learn to adjust and reevaluate their family. What They're Saying: "Touching and funny in their upheaval, the people in The Kids Are All Right open the door to a brand new examination of family values that leaves you charged and cheering" -The New York Observer "'All right' doesn't begin to describe it...the easiest movie to love I've seen all year." -Chicago Tribune Good for Kids? John Corbett and Bridget Moynahan Reveal Their Childhood Secrets

Source: Daily Blabber Added: 52 day ago

Most celebrities with skeletons in their closet are determined to keep them there. But not JohnCorbett. The star of the family film Ramona and Beezus (based on the classic Beverly Cleary children's books and out in theaters July 23) happily admits that he has a secret past -- as a peeping Tom! "We were 10 and 11. We weren't necessarily looking for kicks in the dirty department," the 49-year-old actor tells iVillage in an exclusive interview. "We were just observing people who didn't know they were being observerd -- kinda like detectives!" In comparison, Corbett's costar Bridget Moynahan was well-behaved as a kid. But she does admit to cutting up her friend's mother's flowers to make perfume. "We tried to sell it around the neighborhood," she says. "And it wasn't for any great idea -- like saving the house like Ramona (in Ramona and Beezus). I think we just wanted to go shopping." The two play frazzled parents in their new movie, a role that's familiar for single mom Moynahan, 39, who has a son with ex Tom Brady. And even though Corbett -- who's in a long-term relationship with actress Bo Derek -- isn't a dad yet, he reveals to iVillage that he hopes to adopt in the future. "One day I would consider adopting a kid when I'm in hotels less than I am now," he says. Watch our exclusive video interview to find out what's surprised Moynahan most about becoming a mom and what jobs they'd want if they didn't make it as actors. Like many teen girls, Disney star Selena Gomez admits she can be "so awkward around guys."Luckily, the 17-year-old actress -- who ended her romance with Nick Jonas in March -- has her 10-year-old Ramona and Beezus costar to offer boy advice. So what words of wisdom does Joey King have to share? "You know, I just give her the normal advice," she tells iVillage exclusively. "You’ve got to be yourself.
