So...let's talk about nipples. Remember when Justin Timberlake ripped off part of Janet Jackson's jacket and exposed her breast during the Super Bowl (oh, memories...)? A Federal appeals court has already thrown out the $550,000 fine judgment against CBS but now they want to "re-examine" the decision. Maybe they just like looking at the video of the nipple incident (or "nincident," if you will) over and over and over again. I've never understood why CBS got fined in the first place. It was a live sports broadcast. If you want to fine Janet Jackson or Justin Timberlake or the people who made Jackson's coat, OK, go ahead. But the only way a fine against CBS is justified is if you think they knew about it ahead of time and gave the OK for it to happen. What's the basis for the fine? The man whose name was often followed by the words "enfant terrible" was found dead today in London. While he may be remembered as a bad boy, it's more likely that he will be called a visionary.McQueen was known for his expert tailoring — a skill he picked up working on Saville Row in the early '90s. He caused a sensation and made a name for himself in 1995 when, at the height of the low-rise pants trend, he showed "bumsters" on his runway: Trousers cut so low, half of the model's buttocks were revealed. McQueen was discovered by fashion icon Isabella Blow, who came to one of his shows while he was still a student at Saint Martins College of Art and Design. In 1996, McQueen was named head designer for Givenchy. Blow died three years ago, taking her own life after being diagnosed with cancer; he dedicated his spring summer 2008 show to her. McQueen loved drama. The Givenchy runway show in January of 1997 was presided over by an angel with giant wings. I can't write this without mentioning that McQueen was one of my favorite designers. I loved how he once conducted an videotaped interview with his back to the reporter; his point seemed to be that his face had nothing to do with the clothes, and anyway, he'd said all he needed to say on the runway. His fashion shows were like theater, and he had a knack for creating something terrifying and beautiful at the same time. A model from a McQueen show in 2000. McQueen became a celebrity favorite, and often collaborated with musicians. He designed the cover of Bjork's 1997 album Homogenic. Sarah Jessica Parker's elaborate tartan McQueen gown — seen here as she poses with the designer at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit Gala: Anglomania in 2006 — was indicative of how he mixed irreverence with clean tailoring. Other celebrity fans include Charlize Theron, Gwyneth Paltrow, Janet Jackson and Kate Moss. There was often an element of danger in McQueen's garments — a dark, Gothic quality that could sometimes go over the top. But I would often visit the McQueen store on 14th street, and always found that up close, these were clothes that were expertly designed, impeccably tailored, with hidden details — skull buttons, interesting linings — demonstrating that he committed to his vision, down to the very last thread. Image from a runway show in London, 2004 McQueen's styles may have changed from year to year, but what remained constant was his idea of a woman as a pillar of strength. Whether it was this gown from 1997⦠This look from 2005⦠Or this silhouette from Paris fashion week in October 2009. These women are not delicate; there's a tough beauty, and power. One has to wonder if it came from being so close to his mother, Joyce, who died a few days ago. In a 2004 interview, she asked him: "What is your most terrifying fear?" He answered: "Dying before you." Even though McQueen's runway designs were often too dramatic for every day, his accessories were ridiculously popular: The skull scarf he designed in 2005 remains a trendy item. It goes without saying that I now wish I'd purchased the McQueen bag I was obsessed with last summer⦠Or at least the skull ring clutch I'd seen at the store. Recently, McQueen created buzz with his futuristic and alien Spring 2010 show, presented in Paris in October. The hoof-like shoes received gobs of media attention, and Lady Gaga wore them — and other McQueen designs — in her "Bad Romance" video. In fashion, lots of words like "genius" and "visionary" are thrown around, but McQueen really was a forward-thinker, an artist. Macabre, but with a winking sense of humor, his point-of-view was one of a kind. As a fan, when I saw Lady Gaga and others wear his unwearable shoes recently, I thought that the best was yet to come. LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The late Michael Jackson will appear in the 25th anniversary remake of "We Are The World," Access Hollywood has learned. Lionel Richie and Quincy Jones, who, along with Michael, masterminded the original version in 1985, told Access' Shaun Robinson on Wednesday that the King of Pop's original vocals and footage would be used in the song and video. Michael will appear posthumously in a split-screen with sister Janet Jackson joining him.

The negative press became so pervasive that yesterday, the president of Swift's record label, Big Machine's Scott Borchetta, went on the record defending her, saying that a technical issue during the live broadcast was partly to blame. We can think of several other embarrassing musical performances caught on live TV. Remember these? - Britney Spears at 2007's MTV Video Music Awards: This performance was hyped as a big comeback for Spears after a year of erratic behavior and personal drama. Instead, the former teen phenom took the stage bloated and dazed. Her missed cues, lackluster dancing and sluggish lip-synching were the talk of the VMA's. The explanation? Spears didn't offer one. Sources said she intended to stage a collaborative performance with hipster magician Criss Angel, but scrapped the plan at the last minute. Others blamed the debacle on substance abuse. - Beyonce's July 2007 concert in Orlando, Fla.: As a hard-driving dance beat pummeled the crowd, the R&B diva took a serious tumble down a long flight of stairs.She was professional enough to go on with the show, but bloggers had fun with the clip, which went viral. I can barely hear what I'm playing, and the tone deteriorates into an inaudible mess. F--k it... time for the bass-toss schtick. Up it goes!!!!
