Most people believe that music, in its truest most pop-drenched form, is lightning in a bottle. Dr. Luke, a co-writer and producer of more or less every song on my most played iTunes list, is slowly proving that theory wrong. Lukasz Gottwald, better known as Dr. Luke, first hit your ears back in 2004, when he co-wrote and co-produced Kelly Clarksonâs breakout hit "Since U Been Goneâ with Max Martin. Afterwards, he released hit upon hit onto the world like a firing squad at target practice. From P!nk (âWho Knewâ and âU + Ur Handâ), Avril Lavigne (âKeep Holding Onâ and âGirlfriendâ), Britney Spears (âCircusâ and âShattered Glassâ), and Miley Cyrus (âParty in the USAâ and âTime of Our Livesâ), Dr. Luke has made a habit of delivering female pop #1âs without fail. Then in 2009 he meet a young Ke$ha after laying her background vocals for the Flo Rida hit âRight Roundâ and his major pop-chart overall began to take a new turn. He was about to take over the music world in 2010. And own us he has. Moving from mostly female artists to a full spectrum of rockers, indie-pop acts and male mainstreamers, Dr. Lukeâs studios were a revolving door of satisfied customers. This is what happens when you confuse reality stars for real stars. This is what happens to Gossip when you lower the celebrity bar. Us Weekly and OK! magazine are featuring cast members from the show TEEN MOMS on their covers. This is what weâre selling now? I blame that Palin chick and Britney Spears kid sister for this (I cannot even remember their names, and Iâm not even wasting my time looking it up). Teen pregnancy is preventable. Teen pregnancy should be avoided at all costs. It should not be glamorized in any fashion (Us Weekly is guiltier of this than OK! in this case). I have a few friends who got knocked up during our high school years, and my god-daughter is the result of a teen pregnancy. I love her to death, sheâs amazing and bright and funny. But if her mother had listened to all of us, (and by all I mean everyone except her illegal alien abusive father) she wouldnât be here. Her mom went through hell when she was pregnant. She had to change schools. People in our neighbourhood would stop her on the street and tell her off. And most of our friends stopped talking to her. Our parents thought teen pregnancy was contagious and they wanted no part of it. I'm not even going to go into the problems that having a kid with an @sshole causes. Hereâs the reality of teen moms. They donât usually get paid to be on magazine covers. They donât usually get to be stars of reality shows. But teen mothers are less likely to complete high school, (only one-third receive a high school diploma) and more likely to end up on welfare (nearly 80 percent of unmarried teen mothers end up on welfare). The children of teenage mothers have lower birth weights, are more likely to perform poorly in school, and are at greater risk of abuse and neglect. The sons of teen mothers are 13 percent more likely to end up in prison while teen daughters are 22 percent more likely to become teen mothers themselves. This is what the majority of teen moms face. Not magazine covers, and certainly not paid appearances on DANCING WITH THE STARS. When I grew up when AIDS was around but we thought only "those people" got it. I had no clue herpes and cold sores were related. And there certainly wasnât any gonorrhoea of the throat in my high school (at least no one admitted to having it). But this is what young people face today in addition to unplanned pregnancy. We are also in an era where many people see fame as the end all be all, so if Us Weekly and OK! feel the need to put teen moms on their covers, might I suggest they kill the hair and make-up teams, and show the reality of the situation instead of this cleaned up f*ckery. This week, singer-actor Chris Brown continued his slow but steady climb back into the public's good graces. Brown, 21, is both an executive producer and star of the crime film Takers, currently the #1 movie in America. It's been only a year and a half since Brown brutally assaulted girlfriend Rihanna, a charge for which he pleaded guilty. But things seem to be going quite well for him now. In June, he made headlines with his emotional Michael Jackson tribute at the BET Awards. In July, he reached half-a-million Twitter followers. He's begun to work on a new album with hot hip-hop star Drake, and his new music video is scheduled to premiere this month. Does anybody else find this to be a little messed up? It's not that we think people don't deserve second chances. But we're amazed at how eager everyone is to give one to Brown. Chris Brown committed a serious and repulsive crime, bruising and bloodying his girlfriend so badly that her famous face was unrecognizable. He served zero jail time for this offense. Yet compare the way the press treats Brown to the way they treat Lindsay Lohan. Lohan's crime wasn't violent; it boiled down to being selfish and entitled. But she was sent to jail, and now her career and reputation are in ruins. Nobody is rooting for Lohan's comeback the way they seem to be rooting for Brown's. Want another example? Charlie Sheen was arrested on domestic violence charges in December, allegedly holding a knife to his wife's throat, strangling her and threatening to kill her. But his career hasn't suffered in the slightest: Two and a Half Men is still super-popular, and Sheen is the highest-paid actor on TV. Oh, and thanks to a plea deal, he got no jail time. Let's compare Sheen to a female star who's had legal troubles: Amy Winehouse has been arrested multiple times, usually for suspected drug use or public brawling. In January, she pleaded guilty to assault and disorderly behavior, after punching and kicking a theater manager who asked her to move her seat. This week, she showed up at a Libertines concert and was heckled so badly by the audience that she retreated backstage. Winehouse and Lohan aren't blameless by a long shot, but their crimes are petty compared to what Brown and Sheen did. It's been said that Hollywood loves a comeback -- but maybe that's only true for male stars. It seems like famous men can commit despicable acts in their spare time, and we don't begrudge them their success, while if a famous woman's personal life is a wreck, her public image suffers irreparably. Britney Spears doesn't have so much as a mug shot to her name, but she may never live down the damage that her infamous nervous breakdown did to her reputation. Contrast that with all the misbehaving male stars who've successfully come back -- Rob Lowe (caught on tape having sex with an underage girl), Robert Downey Jr. (multiple stints in rehab) -- or those whose career never suffered at all -- David Hasselhoff (videotaped in a drunken stupor by his own daughters), Alec Baldwin (caught on tape screaming at his child). We're all very forgiving when it comes to our favorite celebs -- unless they're women, in which case we're just waiting for them to screw up again. This week, singer-actor Chris Brown continued his slow but steady climb back into the public's good graces. Brown, 21, is both an executive producer and star of the crime film Takers, currently the #1 movie in America. It's been only a year and a half since Brown brutally assaulted girlfriend Rihanna, a charge for which he pleaded guilty. But things seem to be going quite well for him now. In June, he made headlines with his emotional Michael Jackson tribute at the BET Awards. In July, he reached half-a-million Twitter followers. He's begun to work on a new album with hot hip-hop star Drake, and his new music video is scheduled to premiere this month. Does anybody else find this to be a little messed up? It's not that we think people don't deserve second chances. But we're amazed at how eager everyone is to give one to Brown. Chris Brown committed a serious and repulsive crime, bruising and bloodying his girlfriend so badly that her famous face was unrecognizable. He served zero jail time for this offense. Yet compare the way the press treats Brown to the way they treat Lindsay Lohan. Lohan's crime wasn't violent; it boiled down to being selfish and entitled. But she was sent to jail, and now her career and reputation are in ruins. Nobody is rooting for Lohan's comeback the way they seem to be rooting for Brown's. Want another example? Charlie Sheen was arrested on domestic violence charges in December, allegedly holding a knife to his wife's throat, strangling her and threatening to kill her. But his career hasn't suffered in the slightest: Two and a Half Men is still super-popular, and Sheen is the highest-paid actor on TV. Oh, and thanks to a plea deal, he got no jail time. Let's compare Sheen to a female star who's had legal troubles: Amy Winehouse has been arrested multiple times, usually for suspected drug use or public brawling. In January, she pleaded guilty to assault and disorderly behavior, after punching and kicking a theater manager who asked her to move her seat. This week, she showed up at a Libertines concert and was heckled so badly by the audience that she retreated backstage. Winehouse and Lohan aren't blameless by a long shot, but their crimes are petty compared to what Brown and Sheen did. It's been said that Hollywood loves a comeback -- but maybe that's only true for male stars. It seems like famous men can commit despicable acts in their spare time, and we don't begrudge them their success, while if a famous woman's personal life is a wreck, her public image suffers irreparably. Britney Spears doesn't have so much as a mug shot to her name, but she may never live down the damage that her infamous nervous breakdown did to her reputation. Contrast that with all the misbehaving male stars who've successfully come back -- Rob Lowe (caught on tape having sex with an underage girl), Robert Downey Jr. (multiple stints in rehab) -- or those whose career never suffered at all -- David Hasselhoff (videotaped in a drunken stupor by his own daughters), Alec Baldwin (caught on tape screaming at his child). We're all very forgiving when it comes to our favorite celebs -- unless they're women, in which case we're just waiting for them to screw up again.
